My Story

Consultation has concluded

May 1-7 is Mental Health week and NLPS is aligning its theme with the one selected by the Canadian Mental Health Association - My Story.

For the month of May, we encourage everyone who feels safe sharing their story to consider sharing their story with others. This is a also a great time to share stories about the local organizations who are supporting mental health in our communities. You can write us a story or poem, make a video, draw or paint a picture, or tell your story in whatever other creative way you can think of.

For May, here are some things you may want to consider when telling or creating your story:

  • What is your favourite activity to do to take care of your mental health?
  • How can people better support each other's mental health?
  • What mental health related book or resource would you recommend to others?

  • From Darkness to Light ✨

by Shelley, about 1 year ago

The following is my personal testimony of faith… a faith that has truly been calling me all my life! It speaks of my journey from the craziness of living in turbulent years of bipolar disorder, darkness and complete despair. Incredibly my life was then gradually transformed into a life filled with colourful, beautiful light and hope!

The darkness, despair, the fight in my mind.

Daily thoughts of suicide and for what ----- I cant find

The reasoning behind why you did what you did

To destroy my life cos I stood up for myself.

To stop bullying, harassment was all that I tried

You hid behind your egos, you're fake, I just cried!!!

Your friends in high places protecting all you

Every-one denied what you knew to be true.

Flying monkeys around for the likes of you.

    Gossip can kill

    You kill, you kill

But fighting on is all I can do

To let the world know -... Continue reading

As well as the mental impact a person's sense of self worth and confidence can be destroyed.

Those that CHOOSE to bully may use a variety of methods to target others:

    • Physical
    • Verbal
    • Cyber
    • Non-verbal
    • Gas lighting
    • Turning others against somebody
    • Gossiping
    • Mobbing
    • Abuse of power
    • Social isolation
